The Hellenic Studies Program at Simon Fraser University and the Onassis Foundation lecture series invite you to an exciting lecture by Professor Anthony Kaldellis titled:

A Heretical History of the Parthenon

Professor Kaldellis examines the fusion of pagan and Christian culture that took place in Athens and argues that paradoxically the Parthenon was more important as a church than it had been as a temple. The Byzantine period was therefore its true age of glory, a time when the Acropolis and the city of Athens around it became major sites of Christian pilgrimage.

Professor Anthony Kaldellis is author of numerous books and articles on Byzantium, its history, and literature. Most recently he published: The Christian Parthenon: Classicism and Pilgrimage in Byzantine Athens and Hellenism in Byzantium - The Transformations of Greek Identity and the Reception of the Classical Tradition.

When: 7:00 pm - Monday, January 10, 2011
Where: 1400-1410 at Harbour Centre, Vancouver, BC

This event is open to the public and is FREE to attend. Please RSVP via return email to confirm your attendance. uogianac at sfu.ca
