[MGSA-L] The Greek Institute "Greeks Speak" Lecture Series

The Greek Institute invites you to a series of talks in its continuing lecture series "Greeks Speak", featuring exceptional individuals of Greek descent.

On May 2, 9, and 16, 2011, Dr. Nicolas Prevelakis will give a series of talks titled “Understanding Greece Today”. Nicolas Prevelakis, Ph.D., Lecturer, Committee on Degrees in Social Studies, Harvard University.

The first lecture on May 2 at 7:00 pm will address the historical formation of modern Greek national identity, focusing on the interconnection between East and West, religion and secularism, and tradition and modernity. 

On May 9th at 7:00 pm, his lecture will focus on Greek politics, mainly on the process of democratization in the 20th century, the left/right divide, and the current challenges to the political system. 

On May 16th at 7:00 pm, Dr. Prevelakis will discuss the ways in which Greek cinema has captured the changes in Greek society from the 1960s until today.
