The attempted assault on the 83-year-old Nobel Laureate James Watson, which
occurred yesterday in the main Medical School auditorium of the University of
Patras, is a somber reminder of the ever deepening crisis confronting
nowadays Greek universities at large. This unfortunate incident calls for a
critical reappraisal --by the Greek Ministry of Education and the university
provosts-- of the need for immediate implementation of enforceable disciplinary
actions --including dismissal-- coupled with security measures against lawless
and outrageous behaviors exhibited by "hooded" activists, political
obstructionists, and beyond.

Kudos to the students and university professors who prevented the
unthinkable...!
