A couple of weeks ago someone posted on this list press references to an investigation relating to misappropriation of funds by faculty of the Polytechneion in Athens.

An older scandal linked to Panteion University in Athens, resulted in a number of criminal convictions of academics closer to the interest of this list. Most of these convictions were for fraud and embezzlement.

One of these, Aimilios Metaxopoulos, formerly dean of Panteion and professor of political science, was convicted of embezzling about 8 million euros and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was allowed out of prison because of a severe illness, which claimed his life last Saturday, 11/20.
