Interested in being part of an innovative effort to show how youth are
learning in connected learning environments?
The Connected Learning Research Network (supported by the John D. and
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation) invites you to submit proposals to
participate in a first-of-its-kind two-year research study of "connected
Your group will become part of a national network of people who are
the construction and design of connected learning environments (CLEs)
and how youth learn in them. If selected, youth aged 13-16 would take part
in a longitudinal survey of their experiences, and you will receive results
from the study for your group or community.
We encourage applications from groups that meet face-to-face, meet online,
or combine both online and physical spaces in their organizational
We especially seek groups that engage in work related to the underlying
educational value of equity, focusing efforts on providing equitable
opportunities for underserved communities, and bringing together diverse
populations of youth. We also welcome applications from
groups that could support participation of a small cadre of youth
researchers who could contribute directly to the research.
ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS
We welcome applications from any group that aligns well with the
principles of connected learning and:
- Can recruit at least 15 participants aged 13-16 for the first wave of the
- Is established and stable, i.e. is likely to have staff who can support
group's participation in the study for the next two years;
- Uses digital media;
- Is able to help researchers by obtaining informed consent from youths'
Note: If your group has support for research or evaluation from the
MacArthur Foundation already to study your connected learning environment,
please email awortman at hri.uci.edu to determine eligibility.
SUBMISSION & SELECTION
To be considered, applications must be completed and submitted by
8:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Friday, September 28th, 2012.
Notification of selection or rejection will be sent via email no later than
Wednesday, October 17th, 2012.
