designed especially for board-certified EM physicians. Check out this course and an

Advanced Electrocardiography (8am-1pm)
The Advanced Electrocardiography Course is a session designed for emergency physicians
seeking advanced training in critical EKG analysis.  The course will use case-based
review and problem-based learning to maximize the learning experience.  The course will
present an approach to difficult and challenging EKG Assessment, focusing on common
mistakes and misunderstood findings.  Topics to be covered include arrhythmia, ischemia
and bundle branch blocks.  In addition, the course will review the EKG manifestations, as
well as common misunderstandings of a spectrum of life-threatening disease entities.  A
series of challenging EKGs will review and reinforce these principles.

Airway Management Course (8am-5pm)
The Emergency Airway Management Course is a session designed for emergency physicians
seeking advanced training in the management of the difficult airway in the emergency
medicine environment.  A combination of didactic and hands-on instruction will be offered
to maximize the learning experience.

LLSA 2006 Review Course (1pm-5pm)
This course is designed to provide the experienced emergency physician with an
evidence-based review course for all of the required readings for the LLSA 2006 Review
Course. Both direct instruction and small group instruction will be utilized. Content
will be discussed both via PowerPoint and through small group discussion on key topics
for each mandated journal article.

Personal Financial Management (8am-1pm)
This series of lectures will teach physicians fundamentals in economics and finance that
can be applied to both practice management and an individual's investment portfolio.
Along with a review of various asset classes, the course discusses various investment
strategies to reduce risk and improve performance. (This course is not offered for CME
Credit.)

Trauma Resuscitation for the Community Doc (7:30am-5:30pm) – Sponsored by Cal/AAEM
Most emergency physicians practice in non-Trauma Center community hospitals.   This
course covers management of trauma and multi-system injury as well as risk management in
trauma for the community emergency physician.  “Trauma Resuscitation for the Community
Doc” is a one-day course and review in trauma resuscitation and emergency department
management from airway to the treatment of specific injuries.

Advanced Ultrasound Course (8am-12:30pm)
Advanced Emergency Ultrasound involves didactic and hands-on participation designed to
push your ultrasound skills a little further.  This half-day course will cut right to the
chase in ruling out deep vein thrombosis, differentiating cellulitis from abscess, and
perfecting the skills of needle localization and guidance of procedures.

Advanced Wound Repair (8am-1pm)
Complications of wound repair and healing are a common source of malpractice claims for
emergency physicians.  The Advanced Wound Repair Workshop offers a 5-hour course to
address the repair of complex wounds and to bring the practitioner the most up-to-date
data on wound repair.  The instructors will present evidence-based information and dispel
some of the common myths that persist in the care of wounds.  Participants will receive
hands-on instruction and have the opportunity to practice the repair of uneven edges,
corners, tissue defects, tendon lacerations and much more.

Emergency Medicine in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom: What have
we learned? (8am-1pm)
This course is designed for military and civilian emergency physicians who are interested
in cutting-edge medical lessons learned in the operational theaters of Iraq and
Afghanistan. Topics will primarily focus on advances in management of trauma, with
additional discussion on the role of the military emergency physician in various
operational roles.  This half-day session will be interactive, using a panel discussion
and photographic/video case-based trauma scenarios to engage the audience. 

Presentation Skills and PowerPoint (8am-5pm) 
This hands-on workshop, limited to the first 24 registrants, will give you dozens of
hints to enhance your slides and make your presentations unforgettable.  You will bring
your own laptop with Office 2000 or later already loaded.  We’ll supply the power source,
a CD full of useable tools, and a syllabus full of hundreds of presentation tips.  You
will leave the workshop with your head full of new ideas for electrifying slideshows.

Resuscitation for Emergency Physicians: The AAEM Course (8am-5pm)
Resuscitation for Emergency Physicians (REP) is an integrated resuscitation course for
the Board Certified/ Board Eligible emergency physician. The REP course is an advanced
course for clinicians that will encompass a broad spectrum of topics including neonatal,
pediatric and adult resuscitation. Medical and trauma care as well as advanced procedures
will be covered. This program will be the first integrated resuscitation course developed
by an emergency medicine professional society that is tailored to the needs of emergency
physicians.    
PREREQUISITE:  The 2007 course will require either Board Certification or Residency
Training in Emergency Medicine.
