Please note the following important information regarding the previous message Senate to
Vote on Medical Liability Bills on Monday, May 8, 2006 Take Action Now!:
The CAL AAEM board has not yet had the opportunity to fully assess the impact of this
legislation within the state of California and as such, cannot officially recommend its
support. MICRA limits the recovery of non-economic damages in our state to $ 250,000 and
tantamount support of this legislation in California would translate to an increase
rather than a decrease in the amount of a plaintiff's potential judgement in the area of
non-economic (i.e pain and suffering) damages. Our readers may also wish to note that
the legislation proposes no limits on the amount of economic damages a plaintiff may
recover.
