CDC releases latest annual data on hospital outpatient care

Source: AHA News Now (http://www.ahanews.com)
Date: June 23, 2006

One-fifth of U.S. adults made one or more visits to the emergency department in
2004, according to reports on hospital emergency department and outpatient care
released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Hospital
settings were used more frequently than physician offices by Medicaid, self-pay
and charity care patients for outpatient care. Infants under age 1 had the
highest rate of visits to hospital outpatient and EDs, compared to other age
groups. The reports are based on data from the 2004 National Hospital
Ambulatory Medical Care Survey, which provides data on hospital ED and
outpatient care.
