ACTION NEEDED NOW TO REVERSE 4.4% MEDICARE CUT

Source: AAEM (http://www.aaem.org)
Date: January 31, 2006

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to act as early as
Wednesday, February 1st, to halt the 4.4% percent Medicare physician
pay cut that took effect January 1. Barring any changes in the
legislation, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has agreed
to retroactively adjust claims to compensate physicians for the 4.4%
cut after the one-year freeze is signed into law. Physicians will not
have to resubmit claims.

We can not consider this a done deal. AAEM strongly urges its members
to call their representatives and let him or her know that the cut in
Medicare physician payments will hurt patients and must be halted now.

ACTION REQUIRED:
CALL your Representative TODAY. Urge him/her to stop these cuts for
the reminder of 2006. Since it is unlikely that you will be able to
talk to your Representative directly, ask for the Legislative Assistant
dealing with the Medicare cuts. Telephone numbers and talking points
can be found on AAEM’s Legislative Action Center by visiting:

Please do not delay!
