4.6% Reduction in Medicare Reimbursements Slated for 2007
Source: AAEM (http://www.aaem.org)
Date: April 17, 2006

On Friday, April 7, in a letter to MedPAC, CMS announced that physicians will receive an
estimated average 4.6% reduction in Medicare reimbursements in 2007. According to CMS,
the projected cut in the fees is the result of increased expenditures. CMS said the
major contributors of the increase in spending "appear to continue to be certain
diagnostic and therapeutic services, including services particularly important in the
treatment of the growing number of Medicare beneficiaries with chronic illnesses." These
include follow-up office visits, imaging, and physical therapy.
In a future Action Alert we will be calling upon you to contact your congressional
delegation to protest the reduction.
