Date: March 17, 2005

The governor last week signed a bill to correct a mistake in last year’s state budget that delayed the allocation of $24.8 million in tobacco tax funds to reimburse emergency and on-call physicians for uncompensated emergency care. CMA worked with legislators to expedite the passage of the bill (SB 29) and allow the funding to be distributed as soon as possible to physicians, via the counties that administer the program.
