Tenet to sell four California hospitals
October 1, 2004
Tenet Healthcare Corp. said several of its subsidiaries have entered into an
agreement to sell four hospitals in Orange County, CA, to Integrated Healthcare
Holdings Inc., a newly formed, publicly traded hospital company. The hospitals
are 114-bed Chapman Medical Center in Orange; 178-bed Coastal Communities
Hospital in Santa Ana; 188-bed Western Medical Center in Anaheim, and 280-bed
Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. Tenet said IHHI intends to continue
operating the hospitals as acute-care facilities, to maintain their emergency
departments, and offer employment to substantially all of the hospitals
employees. It expects the sale to be completed by Nov. 30, subject to
regulatory approval. The four hospitals are among 27 Tenet early this year
announced it would divest. The company said it continues to negotiate with
potential buyers for the 12 remaining hospitals slated for divestiture. For
