IICE Montreal 2005

May 2, 2004

Dear colleagues in Emergency Medicine from all over the world.

Having held a host of medical conferences on emergencies during the last twenty years,
including events such as: the 1999 and 2004 joint national conferences with the Canadian
Association of Emergency Physicians and a joint medico-nursing conference in 2000, the
Association des médecins d'urgence du Quebec proposes to host, with its partners, the
First International Interdisciplinary Conference on Emergencies in June 2005.

This bilingual conference, in English and French, is to be presented in Montreal by the
Association des médecins d'urgence du Quebec, the International Association of Emergency
Psychiatry, and the Corporation d'Urgences-santé with the support of a large number of
health organizations. Its aim is to assemble members of all professions working with
emergencies, in or outside of hospitals. No less than twelve groups of organizers and
participants are involved.

Being at the core of the health care system, there are many issues at stake in the
emergency departments. These departments are an essential health safeguard for the
population but at the same time they reveal the system's deficiencies. In addition, with
aging of the population and an increasing number of groups at risk, emergency departments
will be faced with new challenges that will require solutions elaborated by all
professionals employed in and around emergency departments.

This is an invitation!

The first interdisciplinary international conference on emergencies
(IICE) can be seen as a major contribution of the Association des médecins d'urgence du
Québec and of its international partners to the promotion and development of emergency
medicine. This could be achieved by the diffusion of teaching and research and by sharing
expertise in order to improve medical practice as well as management and organization of
services. By assessing present conditions, bringing out new trends, proposing new
approaches and looking into various levels of knowledge, il would be possible to combine
our efforts and implement changes in our respective countries.

Many national and international organizations are involved in IICE 2005 conference. Does
your organization is interested to contribute? To get the proposal for international
organization document and learn how YOU can be involved, click

And to add a touch of glamour to a serious project, the 2005 conference will take place
during a particularly festive season : after the celebration of our two national holidays
(that of Quebec on June 24, and Canada Day on July 1st), it will immediately be followed
by the Montreal Jazz Festival (July 1 to 11) a cultural event reputed as the most
important jazz festival in the world.

Come and jazz up our emergencies!
