The year's first human cases of West Nile virus were reported last month, according to

Of the seven cases reported, two were reported as the milder form of the virus, West Nile
fever, and three were reported as the more severe West Nile meningitis or encephalitis.
No deaths have been reported. The virus has been reported in mosquitoes, birds and other

Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio,
Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas. Last year, nearly 10,000 human cases of West Nile virus
