*** ACTION NEEDED ON SENATE MEDICAL LIABILITY REFORM DURING CONGRESSIONAL RECESS ***

With House passage of H.R. 5, the HEALTH (Help Efficient Accessible, Low-Cost, Timely Health Care) Act, the medical liability reform battle now resides in the Senate. The Senate Republican Leadership is currently working on bipartisan draft legislation modeled after California's MICRA law, which has been in effect for more than 25 years. With the Senate in recess from April 11 to April 28, now is the time to contact your Senators and ask them to adopt the provisions in the House-passed bill, H.R. 5, which AAEM endorsed.

ACTION REQUIRED:

VISIT, FAX, CALL, or E-MAIL your Senators TODAY to urge passage of medical

liability reform. PERSONALIZE YOUR MESSAGE BY TELLING HIM/HER WHAT THIS BILL MEANS TO YOU, YOUR PATIENTS, AND THE FACILITY IN WHICH YOU WORK.

Go to AAEM's Legislative Action Center for detailed information, a template letter/talking points, and all the contact information you will need. To access the Action Center, go to the AAEM homepage <www.aaem.org> and then click on "Legislative Action Center."

When you are on the Action Center's HOMEPAGE, please take the time to sign up for AAEM's "E-Mail Alerts." These "Alerts" will provide you with strategic information to affect key policy issues of concern to emergency medicine.
