[BGSN] Last Week's Meeting & Upcoming Events

Hello everyone,

Thank you to everyone that came to last week's meeting. I think that we started some good conversations that we can continue to discuss during future meetings.
Here are some logistics I'd like to follow up on:


1. We decided to hold officer elections during the second meeting of the Fall quarter, instead of in the Spring. Since there still are not many active members, it makes the most sense to hold elections in the fall when we will hopefully get new students coming to UCI and potentially more members that wish to participate in BGSN.


2. UPCOMING EVENTS [mark your calendars]
	May 2 (WEDS!): Someone mentioned a recruitment event happening on campus? If you know details about this, please send to the BGSN email

	May 17: Professor Shaun Harper, from UPenn, who did a report on successful Black undergraduates, will be speaking here on campus: (http://www.upenn.edu/pennnews/news/new-center-penn-graduate-school-education-releases-report-black-male-student-success-college). There may be events happening all day so I will send more details when I get them.

	May 18: Movie Night, I suggest that people bring a movie and everyone decides which one/two to watch. Feel free to bring friends that are not BGSN members!

	May 24 or 25: Mixer with the Chicano/Latino Club or collective party with DECADE
				Celebratory drinks following the mixer at the pub or off campus brewery to congratulate our graduating members **Issa, Major, anyone else?**
				(carpools/DDs can be arranged)

	June 2 or 9: Beach bonfire (a Doodle poll will be sent out to choose the best day for the majority of people)

	JUNE: Black Graduation Ceremony, this celebrates all of the graduating Black graduates. If you are graduating and want to participate please let me or Tamara Storey know (tamara.storey at uci.edu)

That's a lot of events for May so I suggest that we bypass a May meeting in the CCC (since there's no election anyway) and have our next meeting in JUNE. That meeting will consist of: talking about plans for the summer, outreach/networking efforts, and an open discussion (UCI Climate Report?).


3. ASSIGNMENTS
	Kelly:
		Book the PV Lounge for Movie Night, May 18th from 7-12a. I will send out a flyer once the room is booked.
	Adam and Kelly: 
		Contact DECADE and/or Chicano/Latino Club to start organizing the mixer. If DECADE has already made plans for the mixer, can we join in? Choose a date and secure a room if that has not been done already. Start promoting (flyer will be good). Let me know the day, time, location and I will give the info to the Grad Mailer and other outlets.
	Eric:
		Research a good location for the bonfire. Will there be any fees? We can use BGSN funds to buy the firewood/supplies. The closer to campus the better. I will send out a Doodle poll within the next few weeks.
