Huntington Museum and Library Internship Offered W17/Deadline Monday, November 28th: UCI’s Department of Art History and the Huntington Library and Gardens announces a three-month Curatorial Internship for Course Credit at the Huntington Museum and Library Winter Quarter of 2017 exclusively available to UCI art history majors, an unequaled opportunity to gain behind the scenes access and experience in curatorial work for students considering a museum career path.

The intern will assist James Glisson (the Bradford and Christine Mishler Assistant Curator of American Art) with a variety of curatorial projects and various aspects of an upcoming exhibition on Frederick Eversley, the Los Angeles-based sculptor (currently the subject of a one-man show at Art + Practice) as well as researching potential acquisition candidates.

Duties may include handling photography and photo permissions, catalog research, and organizing archival research materials. The intern will learn how budgets, schedules, and exhibitions checklists come together during the crucial phase of planning exhibition. (S)he will also have the opportunity to write a blog for the Huntington’s site on a topic relevant to his/her interests.

The student will enroll in a 199 Independent Study (4 units) with an art history faculty mentor while interning at the Huntington. The student will work at the Huntington one day a week for ten weeks, meet weekly with his/her mentor, and complete a short paper based on the internship experience. The total time commitment for this internship will run 10-12 hours a week including visits to the museum, offsite research and work with your faculty mentor.

Application Materials:

2. Combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in art history courses at UCI

4. Name of a member of the art history faculty who will provide a reference if needed (student must contact reference in advance and ask if he/she is willing to act as reference).
