Thank you to everyone who joined us on our first museum trip of the year to the Getty! It was tons of fun and we hope to see everyone at our next museum trip. AHUA will be having our weekly meeting this Wednesday, October 24th in Humanities Hall room 224 at 5 p.m. After the meeting we will be showing a free screening of the movie Tulip Fever. Movie description: Set against the backdrop of the 17th-century Tulip Wars, a married noblewoman has an affair with an artist and switches identities with her maid to escape the wealthy merchant she married. She and her lover try to raise money together by investing what little they have in the high-stakes tulip market. Feel free to join us to watch the movie, and bring snacks if you'd like! In this meeting we will also be voting on the design of this year's club t-shirt and giving an update on the art show. We've got some great submissions and we'd love to hear everyone's opinions! We will also begin taking membership dues this week. Dues last for the entire year and go towards our club events like museum trips, paint nights, and the art show. Internship dates: August 5 to September 20, 2018 Application deadline: December 17 Internship description and daily tasks: The Freer and Sackler hold one of North America?s foremost collections of Asian art with especial strengths in the ancient Near East, especially Iran. https://www.freersackler.si.edu The intern will work on one or more of the following projects under the supervision of the internship director. 1) Ernst Herzfeld papers Research on the Herzfeld papers related to the excavation documentation in ancient Iran; help with the creation of a thematic map delineating Herzfeld?s work in ancient Iran in connection to his fieldnotes; write blogs. 2) Ancient Near East Sasanian seals Research on the Sasanian seals, assist in cataloging and re-measuring some of the seals and drawing them. The student will also assist with the documentation of the seals housed at the NMNH. 3) Ancient Iranian ceramic vessels Bibliographic research and comparative studies for the ancient Iranian ceramic vessel collection. 4) Sasanian Silver Iconographic research on some of the imagery found on Sasanian silver and creating corpus of related material. Minimum requirements: The Freer | Sackler requires that the intern have reading knowledge of at least one of the following languages in order to take the internship: New Persian, Middle Persian and/or German. In addition, previous coursework taken in ancient Iranian art, archaeology or history is required. Previous museum experience working with ancient Iranian objects is also a plus. Excellent academic research and writing skills are also required. Please show evidence of your preparation in your cover letter. If these requirements are all met by multiple applicants, Art History majors have first priority followed by Art History minors, Art History MA students, Visual Studies PhD students. Exceptional proposals will be considered from other School of Humanities majors and Art Department majors. Proposals from students demonstrating financial need are encouraged.
