ANNOUNCING FIVE Friends of Art History PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS

PAID SUMMER INTERNSHIPS: Applications are due electronically on or before May 12th, Noon. Interviews with finalists will be scheduled for the following week (with the exception of the second internship in the Art History Department, which will take place during the first or second week of June).

You may apply for one or more internships.  Submit the following application materials for each internship to:

A.      Cover letter (one-page maximum) describing your interest and qualifications (note, if you are applying for more than one internship, include a cover letter for each internship. Only one copy of other materials are required.)
B. Your unofficial transcript reflecting a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher in art history courses at UCI and/or 3.0 overall GPA
C. Your resume (one-page maximum) including art history courses completed at UCI (you may attach a list of classes separately if needed), any previous internships, and any other relevant work, travel or volunteer experience
D. Your art history faculty reference(s). You may also submit other references if you think they would be useful to our selection process.

The UCI Museum Summer Internship: This intern will work on campus with Amy Lim, newly appointed UCI Museum Registrar. (S)he will assist Amy with creating object files, inventory of the UCI art collection, cleaning up data in Embark and other tasks. The intern should be detail oriented, meticulous in gathering information, and comfortable with computer work. $1,000/ 60 hours.

FOAH UCI Department of Art History <http://www.humanities.uci.edu/arthistory> Summer Internship: The focus of this internship is on developing practical business skills with specific focus on marketing and communications. The intern will work on campus with Cecilia Flanagan to develop and implement an alumni outreach program, design and write the annual Friends of Art History magazine, and other projects as time allows.  $1,000/ 60 hours.

FOAH Laguna Art Museum<http://lagunaartmuseum.org/> Summer Internship: The intern at the Laguna Art Museum will work in the Education Department<http://lagunaartmuseum.org/education/> and needs to be a team player, enthusiastic, reliable, and interested in community education and outreach. $2000/120 hours (two five-hour shifts per week for three months

The intern will work with the Education Department to create K-12 programming and materials related to the museum’s current and upcoming exhibitions and events. Tasks will include assisting with all aspects of the planning of these programs, as well as with the presentation and evaluation of programs where needed.

The intern will also assist Laguna Art Museum’s Education Department with preparing public programming related to the museum’s upcoming exhibitions, including the ones scheduled for the museum’s centennial year that will be celebrated during 2018. He/she will assist with planning for upcoming programs including lectures, concerts, films, and festivals, as well as preparing program information and input needed for the development of an effective marketing strategy for each program.

Additional duties will include assisting with ongoing administrative tasks in the Education Department, including updating databases, managing art supplies, and compiling mid-year statistics.

An intern should bring to a position with Laguna Art Museum’s Education Department:

•              An interest in art education and public programming in a museum setting
•              An interest in California art and California history
•              Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•              Excellent attention to detail

FOAH San Diego Museum of Art<http://www.sdmart.org/> (“SDMA”) Summer Internship: Art History majors and 4+1 students with a focus on Asian art are encouraged to apply. Candidates must be motivated, detail oriented, and able to research independently.  $2000/120 hours (beginning early July 2017/40 hours per week for four weeks).

The intern will work directly with Dr. Diana Zhou, Associate Curator of Asian Art, and the Museum's South Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and/or Islamic collections.<http://www.sdmart.org/art/our-collection/asian-art> As a SDMA Summer intern, you will:

·       receive experience in working with historic objects, and museum and library databases
·       assist in researching specific works of art and helping update collection records
·       assist in producing a bibliography for a projected 2020 Chinese painting exhibition
·       attend meetings with Dr. Zhou
·       visit museum vaults, conservation labs, and registrar office
·       observe the gallery installation process

Additional SDMA Internship Qualifications: Applicants should possess an interest in Asian art, be self-motivated, with strong research and writing skills and the desire to gain experience with museum curatorship and administration.
