What’s Up in Art History Now?

Have fun and be an insatiable learner:

Come to Saturday at the Gateway this Saturday: We won't be screening the film; just coffee and pastries, socializing and a short talk by Prof. Glebova drawing out the relationship between the film and art. The event will last approx 1 1/2 hours. See the invite below and please RSVP if you haven't yet.

Develop your leadership and professional skills and help new students find their way at UCI:

Become a UCI Discussion Leader: University Studies 1 is a course designed to help freshmen succeed at UCI. Under the guidance of their Discussion Leader, students are provided with important information that will serve as a foundation for success not only for their first quarter, but for their entire four years and beyond. By taking this course, students will: learn critical skills such effective as time management, be acquainted with campus resources, explore various majors and involvement opportunities, and more!
Why should you apply to be a Discussion Leader?
We were all freshmen at one point; you may recall how overwhelmed you felt. If you had someone to guide you, it probably made your experience a lot easier; if you didn’t, you probably wish that you had. As a Discussion Leader, you will be a form of support for your class of 15 freshmen and help them learn how to successfully navigate UCI.
This program also focuses on leadership and professional development. You will gain vital transferable skills such as public speaking, conflict management, cultural competency, networking, and much more!

Chapman CALL FOR PAPERS Deadline for Submissions: Sunday, January 29, 2017
This non-thematic symposium offers a forum in which undergraduate art history students may present and share their papers. Students from other disciplines who are interested in presenting research focused on visual material are also welcome to submit their papers. The symposium is designed to offer students an opportunity to experience the professional format of conferences in our discipline to better prepare them for graduate school. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by a student committee under Faculty supervision. Students whose papers are chosen will be informed by the middle of February and invited to present their work at a one day symposium at Chapman University.
Keynote speaker: Dr. Heather Badamo, UC Santa Barbara
Submission Guidelines:
Students may present papers that are either based on original research or present original research questions or re-contextualize objects, ideas and theory.
Presentations should not be longer than 20 minutes.
Papers submitted should be approximately 9 double-spaced pages in length, not including footnotes and images. To ensure anonymity, please do not include your name and university affiliation on the paper.
