1. Reminder: 4 & 1 B.A./M.A. in Art History: Info session Thursday, March 3rd at 2:00 with Professor Whiting in HG 2000 (the Art History/FMS reception area)
2. Spring quarter 16 Art History 198: is open for enrollment; there are no restrictions.
If you are considering the 4 +1 program and would like to take this class for graduate credit, you must request instructor approval to do so and submit a Humanities Undergraduate Student Petition<http://www.humanities.uci.edu/undergrad/students/Student_Petition(8.10).pdf>. Upon receipt of approval, you will receive an authorization code which will allow you to register for Visual Studies 295.
3. Announcing a New Summer Museum Internship at the Getty: UCI/Getty Undergraduate Research Internship: The UCI Department of Art History offers a paid Research Internship during the Summer of 2016 (pending final approval). It will extend for four consecutive weeks at 30 hours per week (120 total hours). The internship will focus on nineteenth-century South Asian photography collections at the Getty Research Institute (GRI).  The internship will be directed by UCI Faculty (Prof. Alka Patel) and GRI Staff (Peter Bonfitto).

The J. Paul Getty Trust, comprised of the Getty Museum, Getty Conservation Institute, Getty Foundation, and Getty Research Institute, is a leading arts institution dedicated to collecting, preserving and educating the public about the world's artistic heritage. As the 2016 UCI/Getty Intern, you will participate in research on historical images that will support a proposal for an online research project. You will:

·      work in the GRI Special Collections with permanent collections of historical photographs of South, Southeast and Central Asia;
·      receive experience in working with historic objects, and museum and library databases;
·      research individual historical images;
·      produce a bibliography of relevant sources;
 ·      compile information on scholars in the US and abroad with relevant expertise;
 ·      participate in various stages of online publication planning; and
 ·      receive a stipend of $2000 for 120 total hours of work.

The internship is open to UCI Art History majors in good standing (3.0 GPA overall or UCI art history courses) who possess an interest in photography and/or Asian art, strong research, writing, and communication skills, and a desire to gain experience in curatorship and publications.

4. Reminder about LACMA and SDMA Internships: Deadline March 13th!: The UCI Department of Art History and Friends of Art History (FOAH) announce paid Summer 2016 internships for Art History majors at:

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (“LACMA”) in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Art directed by Associate Curator Dr. Tushara Bindu Gude
The San Diego Museum of Art’s  Department of Asian Art working directly with Dr. Marika Sardar, Associate Curator of Asian Art, and the Museum's South Asian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and/or Islamic collections.
Qualifications: UCI Art History Majors in good standing (3.0 overall GPA), possessing an interest in Asian art, strong research and writing skills, and the desire to experience museum curatorship and administration.

Friends of Art History Summer 2016 Internship at the Los Angeles Museum of Art
As the 2016 LACMA Intern, you will receive practical experience in curatorial practices at the largest art museum in the western United States, with a world-renowned collection of South and Southeast Asian art dating from antiquity to the present.  The internship will begin early July 2016 and extend for four weeks at 40 hours per week. During your internship, you will:
 •      assist with two permanent collection exhibition projects (a small departmental exhibition on Indian painting and a large inter-departmental exhibition on Buddhist art)
•      research specific works of art
•      produce a bibliography, catalogue entry and label text
•      attend meetings with Dr. Gude
•      view works in storage and conservation facilities
•      participate in various stages of exhibition planning
•      be trained in art handling and working with the museum’s collections database; and
•      receive a stipend of $2000 for 120 total hours of work.
 The LaVonne Smith  Summer 2016 Internship at the San Diego Museum of Art
This internship will begin early July 2016 and extend for four weeks at 40 hours per week. As the LaVonne Smith SDMA Summer intern, you will:
 •       research specific works of art,
•       produce a bibliography, catalogue entry and label text
•       attend meetings with Dr. Sardar
•       visit museum vaults and conservation labs
•       observe the gallery installation process; and
•       receive a stipend of $2000 for 120 total hours of work.
5. Reminder: Register or re-register to vote at http://registertovote.ca.gov/ if you haven’t done so already. Become, or stay informed, make thoughtful decisions about your country, take advantage of your right to have a voice and vote. Today is Super Tuesday, a significant moment in the election cycle worth your attention.
