Founded in 1936, the Bowers Museum is one of California's finest and Orange County's largest museums. Situated in the heart of Orange County, the Bowers Museum enriches lives through the world's finest arts and cultures. The Bowers is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, and has been voted "The Best Museum in Orange County" by the readers of The Orange County Register for 16 consecutive years.

Bowers Museum Education interns and volunteers play an integral role in supporting the implementation of a wide variety of educational programs for children, K-12 students, college & university students, families, adult and senior audiences. Education interns gain insight into the functions of individual departments and how the departments work collaboratively as a team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


*        General assistance with education and public program research, planning, operations

and evaluation in conjunction with permanent and special exhibitions at the main museum and the Bowers Kidseum

*        Administrative, hands-on and creative support for the implementation and promotion

of education programs and social networking

*        Entry of program information on web site; preparation of promotional materials

*        Preparing instructional and educational materials, including activities, worksheets,

lessons plans and gallery guides relating to the permanent collection and specials exhibits

*        Translation of documents and/or speaking to visitors or groups
Qualifications
Interns and volunteers must be enthusiastic about museums and areas such as art history, cultural anthropology, archaeology, history, visual and performing arts, the sciences, education/teaching and related fields. They must be energetic, friendly and confident in their skills to engage the public, have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be reliable and professional. Flexibility and a team player a must! Senior in college/university or B.A. preferred. A minimum of a 3-month commitment is required. Computer proficiency on Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel required; social media experience, graphic design, photography and video experience welcome. Bilingual abilities (Spanish, Mandarin, and others) a plus. The internship is unpaid but can be completed for academic credit. Museum hours are Tuesday - Sunday, 10 am - 4 pm; with evening hours or weekends periodically for special events and public programs.
