*/_Pictures of Politics and the Politics of Pictures: Shooting Protest
during the Algerian War _/_presented by Hannah Feldman of Northwestern
University_*

Thursday, January 22, 2009
5:30 PM -- 6:30 PM
Humanities Instructional Building 135

Hannah Feldman studies modern and contemporary art, with a special focus
on the ways urban space and aesthetic practices engage or reflect the
geo-political consequences of war, nationalism, and displacement in the
post- and neocolonial world. She will be presenting from her forthcoming
book on art and spectacle in Paris during the Algerian War of Independence.

This talk is part of RE:VISION, a series of events that marks the
10-year history of UC Irvine's Ph.D. program in Visual Studies, a
pioneering cross-disciplinary program that was among the first of its
kind. RE:VISION brings to campus a diverse slate of guest speakers to
reflect upon issues that underlie a shared mission -- interrogating the
theories, politics, creative practices, aesthetics, and public cultures
that surround art, film, urbanism, technologies of vision, and emerging
media.
