Title: Making Blindness Less Blinding with Realtime Video in the IoT

Speaker: Austin Marron, VP of Product, Aira

Date: Wed., December 7, 2016
Time: Noon - 1 pm (pizza lunch provided)
Location: Calit2 Building at UC Irvine, Seminar Room 3008

Description: Smart glasses have been floating around the IoT space for some
time, but have struggled to find acceptance by the general populace. In this
talk we'll explore some of the more successful applications of smart glasses
thus far and dive into some of the technical details of deploying and
maintaining a fleet of realtime video devices in the wild.

Bio: Austin Marron is a leader in promoting open technologies to improve
efficiency and speed of execution while reducing errors and maintenance
challenges. His unique experiences at the intersection of engineering and
marketing organizations come from positions held at Blizzard Entertainment,
Intuit and as a co-founder at Common Form, Inc. Marron earned his
bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine in Computer
Science. Marron is VP of Product for Aira which develops transformative
remote assistive technology that connects the blind with a network of
certified agents via wearable smart glasses and an augmented reality
dashboard that allows agents to see what the blind person sees in real time.
Agents, serving as visual interpreters for the blind, help users accomplish
a wide range of daily tasks and activities - from navigating busy streets to
recognizing faces and literally traveling the world.
