About: UC President Janet Napolitano announced the appointment of Regis Kelly, director of the California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences (QB3) and a UCSF professor emeritus, as UCOP senior advisor on innovation and entrepreneurship, effective Dec. 1, 2014. In this new role, Kelly reports directly to the president to promote and support innovation and entrepreneurship across the UC system. He works closely with the vice chancellors of research at each campus and with the leadership of UCOP's Office of Research and Graduate Studies. He also works to develop external partnerships that drive long-term revenue for the university and maximize the public benefit of UC innovations.

Kelly's work will complement UC Ventures, a recently announced $250 million fund that will invest in technologies emerging from the university's 10 campuses and three national laboratories. UC Ventures will use no state or tuition funds.

A professor emeritus of biochemistry and biophysics and former executive vice chancellor at UCSF, Kelly has served since 2004 as director of QB3, one of the four Governor Gray Davis Institutes for Science and Innovation created by the University of California. He continues to direct operations at QB3 while taking on this new position.

This event is free and open to the public.
