Protecting IP

Leveraging the strengths of two successful programs, Calit2's TechPortal
is partnering with OCTANe at UCI to offer a new twist to a popular forum. 

The TechPortal Entrepreneur Series seeks to inspire, connect and educate
those aiming to start their own technology business. The informal
luncheon program will offer a monthly series of topics meant to guide
attendees through the entrepreneurial process. 

Topics are covered by leading entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and
university and industry experts on the necessary ingredients to launch a
successful startup. These seminars also provide a great venue for
members of the OCTANe network and wider technology community to meet
with entrepreneurial students and faculty researchers - some who are
occupants of TechPortal and others who are considering the
possibilities. 

About the Speakers

Megha Patel <http://www.ota.uci.edu/contact.htm>  is a senior licensing
officer at the Office of Technology Alliances (OTA) at UC Irvine. She
has an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from UCI, a Ph.D. in
genetics from UCLA, and a law degree from IU Bloomington. Prior to
joining OTA, Ms. Patel was an attorney at a patent law firm in Chicago. 

Steven Nataupsky <http://www.ota.uci.edu/contact.htm>  is the managing
partner of Knobbe Martens. His practice involves all aspects of
intellectual property protection and enforcement, including patent and
trademark prosecution and litigation. Mr. Nataupsky has worked
extensively with clients in the mechanical, medical device and
entertainment industries. He joined the firm in 1991. He has a B.S. in
engineering sciences from Tufts University and a law degree from New
York University School of Law.
