Title:  Energy Efficient Ethernet and its use in Energy Efficient
Networks

Abstract:  The Energy Efficient Ethernet IEEE P802.3az draft standard
(EEE) has paved the way for energy efficiency in the most widely
deployed networking technology in the world. But this is only the
beginning of the revolution that is happening in Ethernet based
networks, as equipment manufacturers leverage this as the cornerstone of
their energy saving capabilities. This talk will review the background
leading up to EEE, the state of the standard and the follow-on work that
is being done by companies like Broadcom to further enhance energy
savings.

 

Speaker Bio:  Vice president/CTO for Broadcom's Enterprise Networking
Group, Nicholas Ilyadis is responsible for product strategy and
cross-portfolio initiatives for a wide range of chip products. He
previously was vice president of engineering at Nortel Networks, and
also worked at Digital Equipment Corp., Itek Optical Systems and Eastman
Kodak Research Labs. He is a senior member of IEEE, and a Kodak Scholar
at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Ilyadis received bachelor's
and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Rochester Institute
of Technology and University of New Hampshire, respectively, earning a
4.0 grade point average in both cases.
