ABSTRACT
DinoQuest and DinoQuest Online represent an exciting innovation in the
application of computer game culture and technology to the problem of
how to make complex scientific knowledge and practice accessible to
young people of all ages. DQ and DQO in many ways represent the state of
the art in science learning game environments, whether as a mixed
reality, distributed sensor network for interactive, hands-on discovery
of concepts from the life sciences and paleontology, an immersive
Web-based learning environment modeled after modern scientific
collaboration practices, and through design and interoperation of DQ and
DQO as an integrated learning environment and experience that addresses
California Science Education Standards for K-6th grade life science.
This presentation will discuss the challenges and strategies for how to
make learning science a fun, informal, family-oriented experience
outside of school, as a way to improve and facilitate formal science
education in the classroom.
BIOGRAPHY
Walt Scacchi is senior research scientist and research faculty member in
