The UCI library system has acquired access to a database that will be of
use to many researchers in engineering and science. Knovel, as it is
called (with a silent K), is a database of online engineering and
technology handbooks and reference works. The database currently
contains over 800 titles for various fields including aerospace,
biochemistry and biotechnology, chemical engineering, civil engineering,
electronics, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and environmental
science.
Knovel offers more than just keyword searching -- text and data and even
molecular diagrams can be researched. Users can search across the site
and manipulate interactive tables, graphs, equations, spreadsheets, and
other structured information.
The database is accessible 24/7 from UCI campus IP computers or from off
campus using VPN connections for UCI faculty, staff, and students.
