Integration of biotechnology and the emerging field of nanotechnology
holds great promise and fosters tremendous interest in academia and
industry. However, the pathway to successful implementation of the
tools of nanotechnology in biological contexts can be too easily blurred
by hyper-enthusiasm for scenarios that will not be manifest for many
years, if ever. Fortunately, one can, with some effort, separate the
hype from the facts and begin to create biotechnological tools and
methods that embrace nanotechnological concepts and devices. Dr.
Henderson will present two projects under development at BioForce that
are aimed at near term integration of biotechnology and nanotechnology
to create products of real world value.=20

Eric Henderson, Ph.D. <mailto:ehenderson@bioforcenano.com> , is the
founder, Chief Scientific Officer, and Chairman of the Board. Dr.
Henderson founded the Company in 1994 while serving as a Professor of
Zoology and Genetics at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. Dr.
Henderson has been deeply involved with the field of Atomic Force
Microscopy since the first commercial instruments became available in
1989. He has pioneered the development of many biological applications
of AFM, and he is a leading expert in this area, having published 67
peer-reviewed manuscripts and other technical articles. Dr. Henderson's
background in areas of atomic force microscopy, molecular biology, and
structural biology, in combination with his natural aptitude for
instrumentation development, makes him uniquely suited to provide the
innovative leadership and scientific vision that will be needed to
ensure the ultimate success of the company. Dr. Henderson earned his
B.A. in Biology in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 1984, both
from the University of California at Los Angeles.
