<p>The Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time 9-month, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer in the area of Modern Greek language and culture, with a start date of August
16, 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Modern Greek, Classics, Comparative Literature or in an immediately relevant field by June 1, 2019 and must be fluent in Modern Greek language. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses. They will
include Modern Greek language at the beginning and intermediate levels as well as courses on Greek culture, ancient and modern, and/or on the reception of Classics. The ability to lead a study abroad program to Greece is desirable, but not required. Salary
is commensurate with qualifications. This appointment is subject to renewal, based on performance and availability of funds.</p>

<p>The Department of the Classics offers a B.A. in Classics as well as an M.A. in Classics and a Ph.D. in Classical Philology. Among its curricular options, it includes a Minor in Greek that combines the study of Ancient and Modern Greek language, literature,
and culture. Courses in Modern Greek have been taught steadily since 2008 with the collaboration of other units and programs on campus. The University is noted for its extensive library holdings in Classics and related fields and for its museums, with excellent
collections of ancient Mediterranean artifacts. The Department of the Classics also publishes the journals,
