Attached is a flier for the upcoming conference focusing on diaconal ministry in the Orthodox Church entitled, "Women and Diaconal Ministry in the Orthodox Church: Past, Present, Future." It is sponsored by the St. Phoebe Center for the History of the
Deaconess and will be held at Union Theological Seminary in NYC on Saturday, December 6, 2014 as a particular follow-on to the yearly conference of the Sophia Institute focusing on "Healing, Reconciliation, and Forgiveness in Eastern Orthodox Perspectives"
(see: http://sophiainstitutenyc.org/conference/) held the previous day (December 5). For those interested, we encourage participation at both events. The St. Phoebe conference will focus
particularly on women in diaconal ministry. This is a great opportunity to explore the diaconal ministry of women, especially for chaplains, spiritual directors, ministers of the Word, and those working in parish administration and philanthropic outreach.
Although primarily focused on women in diaconal ministry, the conference is open to anyone interested in diaconal ministry—men and women, clergy and laity. We encourage early registration. (The registration for students is discounted.)
