12 month 100% position

Primary Function:

Execute the programmatic activities, manage staff, oversee the graduate program, manage budgets, and provide strategic guidance for developing core areas of the European Union Center (EUC) in a professionally efficient and effective manner.

Duties and Responsibilities
·         Provide administrative management of the European Union Center office including representing Director in his/her absence;

·         Day to day management and supervisory duties including hiring, training, delegating, and annual review of staff including academic professional(s), civil service employee(s), and graduate assistant(s).
·         Manage grant execution to comply with University and funding agency guidelines, deadlines, and regulations

·         Identify and evaluate potential external funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals in collaboration with Director.

·         Oversee the Center’s grant budgets and accounts in collaboration with the Director, ensuring sound financial management in compliance with University, State, and funding agency guidelines.
·         Coordinate the activities of program faculty as they pertain to the research, teaching, and public engagement mission of the Center, and in order to ensure successful grant execution and reporting;

·         Oversee the M.A. in European Union Studies (MAEUS), the Graduate Minor, and the 5-year BALAS/MAEUS track, including supervising personnel involved in the administration of the degree, from marketing and admission through in-program advising, placement, and alumni relations. • Collaborate with the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS), Illinois International Programs (IIP), and the Graduate College on all academic matters.

·         Oversee EURO course development and new course proposals in collaboration with the Director, and coordinate listings of EURO courses in the University Class Schedule each semester.

·         Coordinate seminars, workshops, and conferences.

·         Supervise center staff execution of extensive outreach programs to K-12 educators and students, business, media, and other constituents.

·         Develop and strengthen relations with other European Centers in the U.S., Canada, and South America.

·         Coordinate preparation of publications and provide editorial guidance.
·         Represent the Center in interactions with individual and institutional partners both within the UI and external to the University.

Reporting Relationship:

The position reports to the Director of the European Union Center, who reports to the Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies who reports to the Provost.



Qualifications
Required:
·         A Master’s Degree in an area relevant to international studies and programs;
·         International experience;
·         Administrative experience, project coordination, and proven organizational talents;
·         Ability to work harmoniously with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of disciplines, and with representatives from national and international institutions;
·         Sensitivity to the functioning of an interdisciplinary program within the context of a complex university;
·         Ability to work with faculty and government agencies, both in the United States and overseas;
·         Ability to assume responsibility and to work independently with minimum guidance;
·         Initiative and creativity in program development;
·         Strong written and verbal communication skills;
·         Strong computing skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and desktop publishing software, or similar

Preferred:
·         PhD in an area relevant to international studies and programs
·         International experience, preferably in Europe;
·         Working knowledge of one or more European languages other than English


Salary

Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
