Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice, but I wanted to let you all know about tomorrow night's Pacific Chorale concert. We've just finished rehearsing with the orchestra for the first time, and it's going to be a very exciting evening. We're doing two works, both American, I'd never heard of, both for large orchestra and our large choir.

The first work was written around the turn of the 20th century by Horatio Parker, and was apparently the single most performed major choral work in the US at the time. It has, however, faded into obscurity over time. It is a hugely bombastic work, unabashedly over the top, and wonderfully so. It gives the chance for the choir to barely whisper (and if you've never heard 160 people singing extremely softly, it's worth going just for that), and, of course, to try to blow the roof off the building.

The other work is the West Coast premiere of David del Radii's setting of Longfellow's Paul Revere's Ride. It was written in reaction to 9/11, and explores the common emotions between our time and those earlier days. It's a very exciting work, with a lot of colors, textures, and sound.

For more information, see the Chorale's Website, pacificchorale.org

Again, sorry for the late notice. I hope to see some of you there,
Jerry
