[Toastmasters] Duty Roster, August 22 through September 5

Hi All,

Like Ol' Man River, the summer keeps rolling along. This week, it was a great story from Emily and a surfing lesson from Tom. Thank you to everybody who participates so well in our meetings. Having visited a number of clubs around the District, I am constantly amazed at the quality of our club and our meetings.

Some announcements before the duty rosters:

1. Tuesday, September 12, is the UCI Staff Picnic, so we will not have a meeting on that day. However, we are arranging to have a table at the picnic, so please consider volunteering some time to staff the table and talk about ZotSpeak.

2. The Humorous Speaking contest will be on September 19. Our club has had great success in this contest over the last several years (including to two most recent District champions), and I expect this year to be no different. We have a lot of funny people in our club, so I expect a high level of participation. All club members are eligible to participate in this contest. Contact me to add your name to the list.

3. The Evaluation contest will be on September 26. Participating in this contest is a great way to get some additional evaluation experience. Even if you think your evaluation skills need some work (and who doesn't?), and you don't think you could win, this contest is an opportunity to practice evaluating under a bit of pressure (like we sometimes have to do in real life). All club members are eligible to participate. Again, contact me if you want to participate.

So far, there has been very little interest in contest participation, with only one person interested in each. Participating in contests is a great way to get extra practice, in addition to being another way of measuring your speaking skills. Contact me to put your name on the list for one or both (before I start hunting for "volunteers").
