[Toastmasters] Duty Roster, August 15 - 29

We had another good meeting this week (so what else is new?). Iris talked about the Iris Forum (she wanted us to believe it wasn't named after her--hmm), and I read about a wedding that went horribly wrong but ended up wonderfully right.

Some announcements before the duty rosters:

1. Tuesday, September 12, is the UCI Staff Picnic, so we will not have a meeting on that day. However, we are arranging to have a table at the picnic, so please consider volunteering some time to staff the table and talk about ZotSpeak.

2. The Humorous Speaking contest will be on September 19. Our club has had great success in this contest over the last several years (including to two most recent District champions), and I expect this year to be no different. We have a lot of funny people in our club, so I expect a high level of participation. All club members are eligible to participate in this contest. Contact me to add your name to the list.

3. The Evaluation contest will be on September 26. Participating in this contest is a great way to get some additional evaluation experience. Even if you think your evaluation skills need some work (and who doesn't?), and you don't think you could win, this contest is an opportunity to practice evaluating under a bit of pressure (like we sometimes have to do in real life). All club members are eligible to participate. Again, contact me if you want to participate.

So far, there has been very little interest in contest participation. Participating in contests is a great way to get extra practice, in addition to being another way of measuring your speaking skills. Contact me to put your name on the list for one or both (before I start hunting for "volunteers").
