Sailing: Capri ratings this weekend ( volunteers also needed

Capri Ratings this Sunday June 11, 2006
 
This your opportunity to take the UCI rating test. Remember the UCI Capri
ratings is for those UC students, faculty, staff and alumni, who want to
join the UCISA and take out the Capri's. It is also the first step for those
who want to move up to Shields.  The rating is only for UCI's boat use and
club membership  We will be having summer Capri races, so get your rating
now, and be ready for these as well as your own use of the boats. 
 
 If you are not planning on joining for the summer, please take the rating
when you will be joining. Additional test dates will up scheduled soon and
will be offered throughout the summer and school year.  Recent June 06
grads, get the summer at the UCISA student rate.
 
Schedule:
Written tests:  12:00noon 
Written tests must be taken prior to on- the- water testing,  
You may take the written during business hours at the ARC sales desk anytime
prior to Sunday or that day.  Be prepared for the written test, review your
manual.
 
Rating orientation and rigging    1:15 -2pm 
This is required for everyone taking the test that day, including  those who
have previously taken the written test.
 
Rating tests begin at 2pm.
Rating on- the- water test  includes rigging the boats, sailing on all
points of sail, rounding marks, tacks and jibs, docking, single-handed
sailing, and Capsize recovery.
Capsize recovery will be at the end of the day and includes single-handed
and scoop recovery.  Be prepared to get wet.
If you have completed a capsize in class, using the scoop and single-hand,
let me know so I can verify with the instructor.
 
Tutoring  or practicing for the ratings
We hope to have some tutors available to help on this day as well. For a
tutor session, you must have also passed the written test, and have
completed a weekday Capri 1 or a weekend Capri 2 or have the equivalent.
Plan on the same schedule as the ratings.
 
RSVP: You must RSVP and let me know your UC affiliation, and your
experience. It is important for everyone to RSVP, so we are sure to have
enough staff and volunteers jlibbets at uci.edu
 
Cost: Rating/tutoring fee ( you only pay once;  $15 for UCI students/$25 for
all others
The last  2 weeks  of spring quarter included for free, as long as you join
for summer.
 
Current Members:  We need volunteers to help with these ratings and with
upcoming shields and Capri ratings. If  you  are interested in helping,
especially tutoring, please let me know.
