Dear friends and colleagues,

I would like to ask for your support and assistance in continuing Papyrus News.

I have invited Steve McCarty, a long-time colleague and contributor
to Papyrus News, to take over Papyrus News for an indefinite period,
and he has graciously agreed. Steve is a Professor of English in
Japan and the President of the World Association of Online Education
(http://www.waoe.org/), and he has many overlapping research
interests with me. He is especially interested in the cultural
aspects of international online communication. Those of you who
would like more information on Steve's background and activities can
find it at his Website
(http://www.kagawa-jc.ac.jp/~steve_mc/presence.html)

Sending out Papyrus News messages is a big job. Therefore, may I ask
that you please assist Steve by sending him suggested postings or
links for Papyrus News (to steve_mc@kagawa-jc.ac.jp)? That way we can
best take advantage of our collective intelligence and resources to
keep Papyrus News going strong.

Please send announcements and links that you think would be of
interest to Papyrus News readers on the following topics:

* technology and education
* technology and literacy
* technology and language learning or language use
* technology and human/social development
* technology and culture
* technology and equity

In doing so, I ask that you please pay close attention to formatting,
as that will make Steve's job a lot easier (imagine having to
reformat dozens of links sent to you every week or month). If you
are going to send a link to him, please send it in the following
format: title or description on first line and URL on the second
line.  Example:

Resources for Moderators and Facilitators of Online Discussion
http://www.emoderators.com/moderators.shtml

If you are going to send an announcement to him, please send it in
your email messages as plain, unformatted email (i.e., ASCII) text.
Papyrus News does not send out formatted messages, and it's too time
consuming to ask Steve to deal with Word files or other formatted
messages.

Please be aware that Steve will not necessarily be able to post or
even acknowledge all your suggestions, but they are fully appreciated
nonetheless.

Finally, please remember that if you need to unsubscribe, or change
your subscription address, please do it yourself by clicking on the
URL that is at the top of all Papyrus News messages (such as this one
above), rather than asking Steve or me.

Thank you for your ongoing participation in and support for Papyrus
News, and thank you again for the kind messages many of you have sent
me.

warm regards,

Mark Warschauer
