The organizing committee of the International Online Conference on
Teaching Online in Higher Education would like to announce the 2003
online conference on Teaching Online in Higher Education (TOHE).
This conference provides an international forum for discussing
online teaching and learning. This year we have 72 presenters from
around the world and from a variety of disciplines who will be
presenting papers and discussing their ideas and experiences with
participants in an online setting. Discussions will cover online
interactions with students, course development, research, theory,
support and training, and administrative issues. For a complete
listing of topics, visit our preconference Web site at
http://www.ipfw.edu/as/2003tohe/.
The focus of this year's conference is on merging online classes
into the mainstream. Contrary to initial expectations, online
classes are often taken by traditional students with scheduling
problems, family responsibilities, or work constraints that
interfere with traditional class schedules. Consequently,
existing infrastructure may not sufficiently accommodate the
flood of students taking online classes. This year we want to
take a special look at what problems currently exist in how
students enroll in online courses, how they are served by support
services, and how faculty teaching online courses fit into the
system.
The papers and bulletin boards are now available on the conference
web site. On November 11-13, participants can meet and discuss the
papers with presenters in one-hour chat sessions.
This conference is sponsored by Indiana University-Purdue University
Fort Wayne.
