Three Open-Rank Faculty Positions

The Department of Education at the University of
California, Irvine invites applications for three open-rank
positions, beginning July 1, 2004.  Successful candidates
must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and have demonstrated
excellence in research and teaching.

We invite applicants with specialization in one or more of
the following areas:

_ Educational Assessment
_ Educational Policy and Program Evaluation
_ Instructional Leadership
_ Language, Literacy, and Culture
_ Science or Math Education
_ Teacher Education and Development


Applications are welcome at the Assistant, Associate, or
Full Professor level.  Distinguished scholars with other
research specialties are also encouraged to apply. 
Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, relevant
recent publications, names and addresses of three
references, and a cover letter indicating their area(s) of
interest and the professional level for which they are
applying:

Applications will be considered beginning September 15,
2003 and until the position is filled.

The Department of Education currently offers the following
programs:  Ed.D. in Educational Administration and
Leadership, Master of Arts in Teaching, Single and Multiple
Subject Teaching Credentials, and Undergraduate Minor in
Educational Studies.  Applicants will be expected to
contribute to these programs and also to the development of
an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program that is being planned.

The Department anticipates future needs in leadership
positions.  Candidates with academic leadership experience
are encouraged to addresses their interests in the
application materials.

The Department of Education is noted for its strong
commitment to excellence in technology integration. 
Research labs and instructional facilities include state-
of-the-art computer network and projection systems and
wireless communication facilities, with four full-time
staff providing technical support.

UCI is targeted as a growth campus for the University of
California, with an expected increase from 23,800 to 30,000
students within the next ten years.  The Department of
Education expects concomitant faculty growth.

The UCI campus is located in Orange County, approximately
half way between Los Angeles and San Diego, one hour away
from each.  The city of Irvine has been ranked as one of
the safest places to live in the U.S. and encompasses some
of the highest-ranking public schools in California. 
Recreational opportunities abound:  the University is
biking distance from the Pacific Ocean and one-two hour's
drive from mountain and desert vacation areas.

The residential nature of the campus includes a subsidized
housing program (University Hills) with more than 600
faculty residences, five educational/child-care centers for
infant-kindergarten, an after-school program for K-6, and a
laboratory elementary school on campus.
