The remembrance of the 50th Anniversary of infamous
September 6, 1955 Pogrom unleashed upon the
defenseless Greek-Rhôméic community of Istanbul is
encapsulated in the (1995) editorial by Professor
Speros Vryonis, Jr., titled "Eye on History: September
6, 1955 Krystallnacht in Constantinople"

in the powerful photographs by journalist and
photo-reporter D. Kaloumenos depicting scenes from the
aftermath of "The Night of St. Bartholomew of
Rômiosynê". [The latter expression was first used by
Andreas Lambikês, editor of 'Eléftherê Fonê' (Free
Voice), a Greek newspaper in Istanbul in the 1950s,
for which he was arrested and incarcerated.]
