THE CHICAGO GREEK FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCHES
1ST ANNUAL FILM EVENT

CHICAGO, MAY 13, 2003 - The Chicago Greek Film Festival, a
not-for-profit organization, announced today the inauguration of its
first film event, "Enchanted Summers and Dangerous Roads: Greek Cinema
Now," which will take place June 6-24, 2003. The Film Festival, in
association with the Greek Film Centre and the support of Lufthansa
German Airlines, will hold the series at the Gene Siskel Film Center -
located on 164 N. State St. - a landmark of the Chicago cultural film
scene in the heart of the loop.

The following films have been confirmed for the series:

The Bubble by Nikos Perakis, June 6 & 9, at 8 p.m.
Too Late Tomorrow by Layia Giourgou, June 7 & 10, at 8 p.m.
The Flower of the Lake, by Stamatis Tsarouchas, June 13 & 16, at 8
p.m.
Secret November by Takis Papayannidis, June 14& 17, at 8 p.m.
The Cistern, by Christos Dimas, June 21 & 24, at 8 p.m.

The Film Festival will also include a special presentation of Never on
Sunday, the 1960 classic film with Melina Mercouri and one of the
international gems of classic Greek Cinema, in a newly struck print.
Never on Sunday will screen on July 20 & 23, at 8 p.m.

All films are Chicago premieres.

The Chicago Greek Film Festival is the first organization in the
community that will dedicate its mission to the production of an annual
film festival, as well as the planning of other film events throughout
the year. The Festival's aim is to promote the understanding and
appreciation of Greek film of all genres through events that are
recognized for their uniqueness and quality of programming.

"In the last decade Chicago has developed a rich and multicultural
cinematic plateau, one comparable and perhaps better than the other
cosmopolitan cities of the U.S.," stated Harry Karahalios, the
Festival's Director. "The Chicago Greek Film Festival seeks to become a
part of this forum as well as fill a cinematic niche that has been
neglected so far but deserves greater support."

The Gene Siskel Film Center has been a strong supporter of Greek
Cinema, and regularly includes films in its annual European Union Film
Festival. Barbara Scharres, Director of Programming remarks, "In
recent years, Greek cinema has achieved visibility in the film world for
two strong and equally important directions. The very personal and
insightful cinema of Theo Angelopoulos has remained in the forefront of
a modern tradition of avant-garde narrative and influenced a host of
international directors, while a resurgence of the popular cinema has
launched a new generation of filmmakers whose vibrant comedies,
romances, and coming of age dramas speak to new and expanding Greek
audiences."

The Greek Film Series will run from June 6 through June 24. All films
will be screened at 8:00 p.m. Tickets will cost $8 and $4 for Gene
Siskel Film Center members, and can be purchased from the Film Center's
box office or through Ticketmaster, 312/575-8000, www.ticketmaster.com,
and all Ticketmaster outlets. The Interparking SELF-PARK at 20 E.
Randolph St., located between Wabash and State, offers Film Center
patrons a special rate of $12 with no time limit. Patrons are required
to show their ticket stub to receive the discount.
