Netscape and Mozilla web browser changes in DCSLIB
Netscape:
DCSLIB has been updated to contain Netscape version 7 and (for those
who prefer classic Netscape 4.X) 4.8 for Solaris and Redhat platforms.
The new binaries and Netscape 4.77 can be accessed as follows:
Netscape version 4.77: type "netscape-v4.7"
Netscape version 4.8: type "netscape-v4.8"
Netscape version 7: type "netscape-v7"
Currently, typing "netscape" will launch Netscape version 4.77.
As of September 15, 2003, typing "netscape" will launch Netscape
version 4.8. Also at that time, all versions of Netscape prior to
version 4.77 will be removed from DCSLIB.
Netscape versions 4.8 and 7 will only work for Solaris 7 or later.
Users of earlier versions of Solaris should continue using version 4.77.
Mozilla:
DCSLIB currently contains both Mozilla versions 1.2.1 and 1.4.
Browser preferences are compatible between these two versions of
Mozilla. That is, one can freely alternate between using versions
1.2.1 and 1.4. They are accessed as follows:
Mozilla version 1.2.1: type "mozilla-v1.2"
Mozilla version 1.4: type "mozilla-v1.4"
Typing "mozilla" now launches version 1.4. That will change on
Monday, August 25, because of recently noted 1.4 incompatibilities
with existing Mozilla plug-ins and problems with printing from
within the browser. As of Monday, August 25, typing "mozilla"
will launch version 1.2.1 as the "default" Mozilla browser.
Once the issues with the version 1.4 of Mozilla have been
resolved, it will be restored as the default Mozilla browser.
The directories for these browsers are as follows:
Netscape version 4.77: /dcs/packages/infosys/netscape-comm-v477/
Netscape version 4.8: /dcs/packages/infosys/netscape-comm-v48/
Netscape version 7: /dcs/packages/infosys/netscape-comm-v7/
Mozilla version 1.2.1: /dcs/packages/mozilla-1.2.1/bin/
Mozilla version 1.4: /dcs/packages/mozilla-1.4/bin/
