Dear colleagues,
Please sign-on to our coral reef conservation statement.
The
purpose of this statement is to garner support for passage of the strongest
possible coral reef related legislation in the 111th U.S. Congress, including increased funding for coral
reef science. Over 25 marine scientists have signed-on so far. As soon as we
reach 100 the statement will be delivered to Congress and the White
House.
Our statement calls for:
the
reauthorization of the U.S. Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000;the
enactment of meaningful reductions in carbon dioxide emissions; the
effective conservation of at least 30 percent of coral reef and reef-associated
coastal resources in U.S. states and territories using marine managed areas; andsupport
for ocean education and citizen-science programs to create an educated public
that understands and is committed to ocean conservation.
