[Cnidaria] what is it

Hi Gur -This is Velella velella the by-the-wind sailor. It is a hydrozoan in the subclass siphonophora. They can occur in massive numbers in the open sea and can wash ashore during certain wind conditions. As they dry out, they lose the characteristic blue on the colony's underside and look like very large misshapen fish scales. Where did you find it? -Mike
