Dear Kristina and Jan:
You might consider tying into one of the taxonomic lists being served by various organizations such as MarineSpecies.org or the Catalog of Life (http://www.catalogueoflife.org/search.php). These lists may not be as good as they can be at present, but they have dedicated resources and processes for updates and maintenance. They should become better with time. If you can tie one of these into your software project, that aspect of your project can reflect better classifications and taxonomy as they become available.
Best wishes,
--Allen

Subject: [Cnidaria] cnidaria systematics
Dear all,
I wonder if somebody has an systematic list of all cnidarians including
class, (subclass), order, family, (probably genus) in a html or xml
format.
We need it for an identification software in one of the above mentioned
formats. Before I start to generate it, I would like to ask if a list
in this format already exists.
If you have one and you are willing to share, please send it also to my
colleague Jan.Schulz at awi.de as I will leave tomorrow for an expedition
Thanks in advance
and best wishes
Kristina
