I made wholemount slides of ephyrae and other plankters in TEM
embedding epoxy (stain, dehydrate in EtOH, then clear/infiltrate/embed
using acetone as an intermediary solvent). Support coverslips with
glass tubing pulled fine in a flame, and polymerize in a 60° oven as
usual. No problems if the slides are stored on edge. For fixation, I
used 4% formaldehyde in seawater and stained in Lynch's precipitated
borax carmine with fast green counterstain.
