Plankton nets must from time to time cleaned by digesting the proteins that
clog the meshes. A good method is to soak it in a household laundry
detergent. Make shure that you use a modern product designated to be used
for modern tissues and at lambient temperatures (i. e. products that have
proteolytic enzymes in it). It works well, however you must then rinse the
net very thoroughly as any remaining detergent may have a harmful effect on
the animals you catch.
