[Cnidaria] medusan ?

Dear Steve:
You were right. That is a stauromedusa in the genus Lipkea. If I remember correctly, Lisa Gershwin had specimens from New Zealand that may represent the same species. If by chance you made any collections, I am working on a systematic study of Stauromedusae and have been hoping to add this key but rare genus to my analyses.

Best regards,

Subject: [Cnidaria] medusan ?

Hi there

Would someone be able to shed any light on this wee chappie (attached)?
Initially we thought it might be stauromedusan, but frankly we were just
guessing. The image was taken in Fiordland, New Zealand, and is very
roughly about 20 mm in diameter.

Cheers
Steve Cook
