dear cnidarian pals
it seems that getting pdf files is a crucial aspect of our work. Of course
it is! There are journals that ask their authors to sign a form where they
promise not to distribute the pdf files of their papers. I have recieved a
message from a colleague telling me that he had just published a paper and
that I could have bought it through the journal. I inquired, and he told
me about the form. And I had to buy the paper. Not a big monograph, a
paper.
So, the circulation of pdf files of recent papers might be against the
rules of copyright. And we might break the law by making scientific
literature available! If you want your papers to be "public", do not sign
those forms, and choose other tribunes.
Let's be careful in our publication policies. And let's fight against the
publishers who prevent free circulation of scientific information.
I do not want to write here the name of that journal. I can write it
privately to the curious ones among you.
